Wrote my whole messy draft in one sitting with no backspace and it actually worked
I always get stuck editing as I go, so last Tuesday I tried something different. I turned off my monitor for 25 minutes and just typed by feel, no fixing, no deleting, no reading back. Ended up with 1,100 words for my short story about a guy who trains dogs at a shelter in Boise, and about 15 minutes of that was me hunting for the backspace key out of pure habit. Anyone else try drafting blind, or do you have a different trick for shutting off your inner editor?
My buddy did the same thing but he duct taped his backspace key down after a few tries because his fingers kept drifting to it. Got 800 words out of it and half of them were garbage but he said the good parts were way better than his usual over-polished stuff. Worth trying if your hands keep betraying you like his did.
