Finally got my fantasy map's coastline to look natural after watching a geology doc on YouTube

I kept drawing those weird, smooth curves until I tried the 'random scribble' method from a cartography blog, and it actually worked lol. Anyone have other weird tricks for making fictional geography feel real?

But doesn't scribbling just make things look like a messy kid drew it? I've had way better luck using a worn down pencil and tracing over a real satellite image of some coastline I liked. Wind patterns and river mouths become way more obvious that way compared to random squiggles.

Always used rulers, but scribbling changed my mind.

Rulers still give cleaner lines than scribbling, @joseph_hart.
