Found a weird trick to beat writer's block after trying everything for 2 years
I was stuck on a short story for about 3 months. Could not get past the first page. I tried all the usual stuff like freewriting and changing locations. Nothing worked. Then one day I just started typing the worst possible version of my opening scene on purpose. Like I made the dialogue cheesy and the descriptions totally flat. It was almost funny how bad it got. But after I finished that trash draft, I had a clear picture of what I actually wanted. I fixed it up in like 20 minutes. Has anyone else tried writing a purposely bad version to get unstuck?

The purposely bad version thing actually makes sense.

It's like how sometimes you have to make the wrong turn to find the right road.
