Had to write a prompt about a character who gets trapped in a furniture store at closing time

What should have been a 10-minute brainstorming session turned into 3 hours of me actually mapping out the whole store layout and escape route like my character was in a heist movie, has anyone else gotten completely sidetracked by their own stupid idea like that?

Hmm, I get what you're going for with "tape off the exits" but that's actually the opposite of what you'd want to do first. You'd map out where the exits are first, then figure out how to get there through all the shelves and floor displays. Taping them off just makes you focus on what you can't use instead of what you can. I always start with a clear path from wherever my character is to the nearest emergency exit, then work backwards through all the furniture to create obstacles. That way I know exactly where they need to end up before I decide how hard it's gonna be to get there...

Tape off the exits on your floor plan. Makes it way easier to map out the route backwards.
