Heard a random line in a coffee shop that sparked a whole story idea

I was waiting for my latte at this place downtown and some guy at the next table said "you can't make a ghost follow the same rules as the living." I have no idea what he was talking about but I scribbled it down on a napkin and now I'm 12 pages into a horror short about a ghost that breaks all the traditional haunting rules. It's got me thinking about how we box ourselves into tropes without even realizing it. Has anyone else grabbed a weird overheard quote and turned it into something?
