Ugh the 'wrong genre' trick is such a game changer lol. I tried it once where I wrote a romance scene but made it a zombie apocalypse story and somehow ended up with this super tense and weirdly sweet moment between two characters. It was like the writing just unlocked itself because I wasn't following any rules. Now I'm addicted to mixing up genres for everything even grocery lists that's probably too far though haha.

Try writing a horror scene as a cozy dialogue next. Completely changes how tension works.
