Just realized my best story idea came from a gas station receipt in Tucson.

I was stuck for a month, but the line 'paid with thank you' on a receipt from a Circle K gave me the whole plot for a character who literally trades in gratitude.

Wait @hart.ryan you ever get a spark from something that dumb and then it just works? Last week I found a grocery list with "eggs, milk, revenge" on it in a shopping cart and I'm still trying to figure out who that guy was.

Paid with thank you" is cute but honestly that sounds like a gimmick, not a real plot. Same with @angela_dixon's ghost idea, it's a fun start but where's the actual story?

Isn't it wild where ideas come from? I once saw a note taped to a library book that just said "sorry for the coffee stain" and it spiraled into a whole story about a ghost who only apologizes for things.
