My worst writing week turned around with a single prompt
Last Tuesday, I was stuck on a story for four days straight and ready to give up. I opened an old book of prompts I bought in Tucson and tried one that said, 'Write from the view of a lost item waiting to be found.' I wrote a whole page from the view of a single glove left on a park bench. That small change broke the block completely. I wrote three more short pieces that week using the same idea but different items. Has a simple prompt ever pulled you out of a bad creative slump?

That 'lost item' prompt is a classic fix.

What's the deal with buying a whole book of prompts just to use the one about lost stuff? I did the same thing last year with a fancy writing book and only ever used the exercise about describing a weird smell. Sometimes the simplest idea is the only one that actually works for me, and the rest of the book just sits there making me feel guilty.
