That time I used a grocery list as a writing prompt and it blew up
Just the other day, I was walking through the store and saw a piece of paper on the floor. It was a grocery list with things like 'blue yarn' and 'a single lightbulb' on it. I picked it up and thought, what if this is a clue in a story? So I sat down and wrote a quick tale about a person who buys these items for a secret project. The story grew into a full mystery with a twist ending. My writing group said it was some of my best work. Now I'm always looking at random notes as potential prompts. Has anyone else tried turning everyday stuff into writing ideas? I'd love to hear how you find inspiration in small things.

Wow, that lightbulb was for a really dark yarn project.

That's actually a brilliant way to find stories. My brain starts running when I hear those weirdly specific airport announcements, like a page for "Mr. Fox in the red hat." Who IS that guy. Even boring stuff like a single glove left on a park bench makes me wonder about the person who lost it. The world is full of these tiny, unfinished sentences just waiting for an ending.
