Getting my first apartment in Phoenix made me actually look at my credit report for the first time
The landlord pointed out a small medical bill I'd forgotten about from college that was dragging my score down by almost 40 points. Has anyone else had a surprise like that pop up during a big life change?

Forty points for one old bill? That's insane, it feels like the whole system is rigged. I had a similar thing happen with a library fine from a different state I never even lived in.

Wow, I used to brush off stuff like this as just mix-ups. But hearing how common it is, yeah, the system's totally broken.

Yeah, "totally broken" feels right. I got a notice once for a parking ticket from a city I'd only ever driven through to visit my grandma. Didn't even stop for gas there. Figured out later it was some guy's plate that was one letter off from mine. My dad still jokes that I'm a wanted fugitive in three counties, which is honestly more embarrassing than scary. I laugh it off but it's like, how do you even fight that without spending half a day on hold?
