I got a 40 point drop from a single credit check in Phoenix

I applied for an apartment here in Phoenix last month and they did a hard pull on my credit. My score went from 720 to 680 almost overnight. I thought one check wouldn't matter that much. How long does it usually take for a hard inquiry to stop hurting your score?

Give it time" is usually the advice but that 40 point drop is rough. In my experience those hard pulls stay on your report for 2 years and keep dragging you down for a good 6-12 months before they start to fade.

Mine bounced back after a few months, just give it time.

Totally agree with @mary239. Mine came back stronger after I switched up my routine. Patience is key.

Can confirm, time and consistency did the trick for me too.
