My credit union teller said paying off my card in full every month would tank my score, and it cost me 2 years of worry
Back in 2022 a teller at my credit union in Spokane pulled me aside and swore that if I paid my balance to zero every month, the bureaus would see no activity and my score would fall. So I started carrying like $200 to $300 over each month and paying interest on it for almost two years. Finally I got fed up, paid the whole thing off, and kept using the card for gas and groceries. Six months later my score went from 704 to 761. Turns out the real trick was just using the card and paying it off, not dragging a balance. Now I want to know how many other people got fed this same line at a branch.
