My dad's old tip about gas cards still holds up
Sat down with my dad last weekend in Tampa. He's 74. We got to talking about how I got my first card 20 years ago. He said the old rule was simple, pay it off every single month and never use more than a third of the limit. I used to think that was too old school. But after watching my score bounce around for years, I finally ran the numbers with him. He was right. My average age of accounts is now 11 years because I kept that first gas card open. Has anyone else stuck with a starter card way longer than they planned?
