My score jumped 40 points after I fixed a weird old credit card error
I was checking my free report from Experian last month and saw a card I closed in 2020 was still listed as open with a $500 balance. I called the bank and they confirmed it was a reporting mistake. They sent a correction to the bureaus, and when my score updated yesterday, it went from 680 to 720. Has anyone else had a bank's mistake stick around on their report for that long?

Seriously? That's on you for not checking sooner. A four year old error is wild, but free reports exist for a reason. You basically let free money sit on the table.

Four years of unclaimed cash is like finding a twenty in your winter coat, except the coat is your credit report and you've been cold for ages. I once forgot about a fifty dollar refund from an old gym membership for two years and felt like a genius when it showed up. At four years, that's not just free money, it's an accidental savings plan with terrible interest. Honestly, I'm kind of impressed by the commitment to not checking.
