Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say his score jumped 40 points after paying off a $300 medical bill from 3 years ago

I had a similar old bill sitting in collections and just settled it yesterday after hearing that, so now I'm wondering how long it actually takes for a paid collection to show up on your credit report? Anyone else have luck with this?

My buddy Dave got a collections notice for a $45 library fine he paid in 2018. Six months of calls and letters later, @thea246 would have laughed - it took a threat to sue before they finally fixed it. The system's broken, plain and simple.
