Showerthought: my $80 credit score monitoring service was a total waste
Back in 2019 I paid $80 for a year of a big credit monitoring service, thinking it would catch errors and boost my score. It mostly just sent me weekly emails saying "your score changed by 2 points" and never flagged the wrong address from my old apartment in Tempe. When I finally pulled my free reports through annualcreditreport.com, I found the same info in about 10 minutes. Anyone else pay for a service they later realized was pointless?
Honestly though, the weekly alerts did catch a hard pull I forgot about, and free reports only come once a year so you're flying blind in between. For 80 bucks a year that peace of mind might be worth it for some folks, just depends on how paranoid you are.
