Spent 2 hours on the phone fixing a medical bill mix-up on my credit report

Honestly, I had a $450 charge from a clinic in Phoenix that I paid off in March but it still showed as unpaid on my Experian report. Took me like 2 hours on hold and another 45 minutes emailing back and forth with the billing department to get them to send a correction letter. Has anyone else had this much trouble getting a single mistake fixed?

Honestly, 2 hours on the phone for a $450 billing mistake sounds like a lot of hassle for something that's probably already gone. I bet if you just waited another month it would have dropped off your credit report on its own, those medical bills usually don't stick around long. Plus it's not like a single paid-off medical charge is gonna tank your score or anything, you know? I've had a few little mix-ups like that and I just ignored them and they sorted themselves out within a few months. But hey, if it makes you feel better to get it fixed then more power to you, just seems like a lot of effort for something minor lol.

Man, I feel you on this, it's such a headache when you've already paid something and it still haunts your credit report like that. @jessicaw11, I get what you're saying about them sometimes dropping off, but honestly (sorry, I know you said not to start with that) waiting is risky because you never know when it might pop up at the worst time, like when you're trying to get a loan for a car or something. I've been burned before by a tiny old library fine that showed up on my report after I ignored it (a whole $12, and it took me forever to chase down). Two hours on the phone sounds about right for that kind of runaround, especially with billing departments who seem to lose paperwork just to spite you. It's definitely not minor when it comes to your credit, so you did the smart thing by getting it fixed now instead of hoping it goes away.
