The week my credit score dropped 40 points over a $17 late fee

Last March I had autopay set up for my smallest credit card, the one I only use for Netflix. Well, I forgot I switched banks and the payment didn't go through. Got a late fee of $17 and a 30 day ding on my report. Took me 3 months of on-time payments to get back to where I was. Anyone else had a tiny mistake cost way more than it should have?

I mean, is a 40 point drop really that big of a deal? Unless you're trying to buy a house or a car right at that exact moment it probably doesn't matter much.

It really stings when something that small causes that much damage, you're not alone there. A 40 point drop feels way out of proportion for a $17 mistake, especially when you had no intention of skipping the payment. Did you try asking the card company for a goodwill removal, or did you just ride it out?
