Took 3 credit card denials before I noticed the real reason
I kept getting denied for new cards even though my score was 720. Took me three tries and a deep dive into my reports to see an old collections account from 8 years ago was still sitting on Equifax. Has anyone else found a random mistake like that on just one of the three bureaus?

Actually a 720 score means you're still in subprime territory for most major card issuers.

Cap One actually auto-declined me at 722 back in 2019 for their Quicksilver card. They sent that letter saying "insufficient credit history in relation to our criteria" which really just meant my oldest account was only 2 years old. Chase is the same way with their Sapphire cards until you hit 740 plus a year of history with them. The sweet spot I found was going with a local credit union first to build that relationship before trying the big banks again.
