Building boards with dry switches gives me the sound I love

I keep seeing posts about how lubing switches is a must for every build. I tried it once and felt it made my typing too quiet and less defined. Why do we push for such a uniform feel when different switches have their own charm?

Used to think lube was the only way to go, felt like I was doing it wrong if I skipped it. Then I built a board with some old stock Cherry blacks and left them bone dry. The sharp, defined sound and that bit of grit under your fingers, it just clicked for me. Now I get why some people chase that specific feel, it's a totally different experience. Pushing one "right" way to build kills the fun of trying stuff out.

Heard a podcast say some prefer the scratchy sound of dry switches.

That's actually talking about the feel, not the sound. Dry switches are meant to feel smooth without lube, so scratchiness is usually seen as a flaw. What kind of keyboard are you using right now?
