Heard a guy at the keyboard meetup say foam is killing your sound profile

I was at the Chicago meetup last month and some dude named Mike who builds for a living said he ripped all the case foam out of his QK75 and the difference was night and day. Ngl I had like 3 layers of shelf liner in my Zoom65 and after I pulled it all out the board actually sounds way more lively with a deeper clack instead of that deadened thud. Has anyone else tried running their board totally foamless or is that just a thing for certain switch and plate combos?

Night and day" is exactly how I felt man. I got a cheap Tester68 off Amazon and stuffed it with like a whole yoga mat worth of foam at first, sounded like typing on a bag of flour. Took it all out and swapped in some long pole switches and now it has this nice deep pop like a campfire crackling. Only thing I left in was the little pad under the spacebar because that thing was rattling like a snake lol.

Oh man, the spacebar rattle is the worst! I did the exact same thing with my first build, had foam stuffed everywhere and it sounded dead. Once I pulled it all out and put in some oil kings, it was like a totally different board. I still keep a tiny piece of tape under my stabilizers though, that hollow noise drives me crazy if I don't. It's wild how much just taking foam out can change the whole sound profile. You really gotta experiment and find what works for your specific setup.
