I was lubing my switches wrong for almost a year and didn't know it
I built three boards thinking I was doing a decent job, but my typing always felt a little scratchy and inconsistent. The moment it clicked was last month when I was watching a build stream and the person mentioned they only lube the bottom housing rails and the stem, not the entire inside of the housing. I had been slathering Krytox 205g0 on every single surface I could see, including the top housing clips and the spring ends. I went back and re-lubed just the rails and stem on a Gateron Yellow switch, and the difference was night and day. It was smoother and the sound was much more even. I wasted so much lube and time. Has anyone else had a specific lubing step they were overdoing that messed with the feel?

Over-lubing the leaf spring is a silent killer for tactiles.

Tbh I was doing the same thing with my springs. I used to dunk them in lube and it made everything feel slow and mushy. Now I just put a tiny bit on the ends, like @evannelson said about the leaf spring, less is more. The switch snaps back way faster and feels crisper.
