My old build went from clacky to thocky after one simple swap
I was running Gateron Yellows in my first custom board for about 8 months and they felt fine but sounded kinda hollow and high pitched. Then a buddy at my shop let me try his board with some Durock POM linears and I was shocked at the difference. I swapped mine out last weekend, same keeb, same keycaps, same plate and everything else. The sound got way deeper and fuller, like night and day just from switching the switches. Anyone else had a huge change like that from just swapping one part?

My Lube Station v2 made a bigger difference than any switch swap I ever did. I picked up a cheap ultrasonic cleaner and started doing 5 minute baths on my Gateron Yellows before relubing them. That got rid of all the factory gunk and the sound dropped way deeper than just swapping to Durocks alone. The POM material in those Durocks is definitely smoother but I bet if you cleaned your Yellows first and gave them a good 205g0 treatment you would have gotten a similar thock without spending money on new switches. Sometimes it's about prep work not just parts.

I tried ultrasonic cleaning on my Gateron Yellows for 8 minutes and honestly I couldn't hear a difference from the ones I just wiped down with a cloth. Maybe my water temp was off or something, but the thock people chase feels more about the housing material than a quick bath. Prep work definitely matters but I think Durocks have a naturally deeper pitch that cleaning alone just can't match.
