Rant: My keyboard sounded like a bag of gravel until I tried a different lube method

I built a board with Gateron Oil Kings about three weeks ago, and the sound was just awful, super scratchy and loud. After watching a video from a builder in Portland, I tried lubing just the bottom housing rails and the stem legs, skipping the springs entirely. The difference after letting it sit for a day was crazy, it went from that gritty noise to a smooth, deep thock. Has anyone else had a switch turn out better with less lube?

Yeah, less is more with lube sometimes.

Is it just me or does that apply to almost everything in life? Like cooking with spices or putting on makeup, you always hear people say less is more but then half the tutorials dump half the bottle in. @harper_gibson2 probably noticed the same thing with lube, too much and it gets sloppy instead of smooth. Same with hot sauce, you can always add more but you can't take it back once it's in. Pushing down on a keyboard is the same way, a light touch gets the job done without making a mess.

Honestly saw a video where they said overlubing can make switches sound muddy. Tbh your method of just hitting the rails makes total sense now.
