Tried polyfill plate foam for the first time and it completely killed the sound I was going for

I built a TKL last month with a brass plate and was chasing that deeper, thocky sound everyone talks about. Threw some 2mm polyfill foam between the plate and PCB, and it turned into a muffled mess. Learned that brass is already dense enough to dampen things on its own without extra help. Pulled the foam out and got back the nice clack I was actually after. Has anyone else overcorrected with dampening materials and had to backtrack?

i did the exact same thing with a brass plate on a tofu60. woke it right up, sounded like i was typing into a pillow. pulled it all out and it was way better. sometimes less is more with this stuff.

Three layers of foam killed my KBD75 dead too.
