Finally locked down my personal cloud after a weekend project.

Setting up encryption for my files was totally worth the effort.

Calling it "locked down" might be a stretch since encryption is just one part.

Exactly, encryption is just the start. Real lock down needs strong app store rules, tight system permissions, and hardware that keeps data safe. Look at something like iMessage or your banking app, they build walls on top of the basic encryption. Calling a system secure just for one piece is like saying a house is safe because the front door has a lock, while the windows are wide open.

Honestly, that house analogy with the lock and windows really hits home. I heard on a tech podcast last week that even with encryption, apps can still sneak data out through loose system permissions. They gave the example of some weather apps collecting location info non-stop because the permissions weren't tight enough. It shows how you need everything locked down, not just one part.
