Just read that 80% of data breaches start with weak passwords

I was scrolling through the Verizon Data Breach report last night and that stat just jumped out at me. My brother in law still uses "password123" for his email and I've been nagging him for years. It makes sense when you think about it though, most people just want something easy to remember. But 80% is way higher than I expected. Has anyone here actually gotten a family member to switch to a password manager?

Yeah so I got my mom to switch after she called me crying because her Facebook got hacked and they were sending weird DMs to her friends. I sat her down and set up Bitwarden, wrote her master password on a sticky note and taped it inside her kitchen cabinet where only she'd look. She grumbled for like a week about how it was "too complicated" but now she actually likes it because she doesn't have to remember 15 different passwords anymore. The trick was making it a one time setup thing with her in person rather than just telling her to do it herself. She still forgets to log into it sometimes but at least she's not using "Fluffy123" for her bank anymore.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose though? If you're writing down the master password you might as well just write down all your passwords in the same spot, @sam_anderson.
