Paid $40 for a "dark web scanner" that just Googled my name

Last month I saw an ad for a service that promised to scan the dark web for my info. Sounded cool so I dropped $40 on it. Got the report back and it literally just listed my old Yahoo email and a breach from 2016 that was all over the news. I could have done that with a free search. Anyone else wasted money on these so-called security tools that just scrape public data?
