Pro tip: Stop using the same password for everything

I used to just rotate between three passwords for all my accounts until my email got hacked last month and they got into my Amazon, Netflix, and even my bank. After that I spent an afternoon setting up Bitwarden and now every single login has a unique random password. Has anyone else had a wake-up call like this that finally got them to use a password manager?

Nice try, my email hacker.

Oh man I totally get where you're coming from! That happened to me last year when someone tried to reset my bank password. Here's what actually works - turn on two factor authentication on everything important like email and banking. Also, check if your email got leaked on haveibeenpwned.com because that's usually how they find you. I'd change your email password right now to something totally new and random. Another thing that helped me was setting up recovery codes in case you get locked out yourself. Stay safe out there because these scammers are getting smarter every day.

Funny you say that because this exact thing happened to my friend Sarah last month. She got an email saying her Netflix account was canceled and to click a link to reactivate, but she almost fell for it until @oscarcooper mentioned checking haveibeenpwned. Turns out her email was in a data breach from some old shopping site she used years ago. She changed her password and turned on two factor auth after that.
