Rant: Had a scare with 2FA texts getting intercepted last week

I was reading about SIM swapping attacks and thought it was some rare thing until my buddy at the shop lost his phone number for a day. Turns out someone called his carrier and got them to move his number to a new SIM. I switched everything to an authenticator app like Google Authenticator after that. Has anyone else switched away from SMS codes or do you still roll the dice with texts?

Did you read that article a few months back about how SMS is basically like sending a postcard through the mail? That really stuck with me because it's so true. I switched to an authenticator app last year after hearing about a guy who lost his whole crypto wallet to a SIM swap attack. It's a small change but it gives me a lot more peace of mind. The only downside is having to re-sync everything when I get a new phone, which is annoying but still better than getting hacked.
