Rant: Why everyone says to use password managers but ignores the recovery issue

I mean, all the big cybersecurity gurus keep pushing password managers as the only safe way. But what about when you lose access to that manager? Last summer I locked myself out of my Bitwarden vault after a phone reset went wrong. Took me 4 days to get back into my email and bank accounts using backup codes I had printed out. Has anyone else run into this problem with their vault recovery process?

My brother lost his whole crypto wallet because the recovery phrase was saved on a phone that got run over by a truck.

@butler.brian That's honestly brutal. I've seen people lose recovery seeds to house fires and spilled drinks, but a truck running right over it is a new one. Wallet security is no joke when physical destruction is that easy. Might be time to convince your brother to use a hardware wallet with a metal backup plate instead of relying on a phone file.
