Serious question, did 2FA actually make things worse for anyone else?
I used to have no issues logging into my bank account. Then they forced 2FA about 6 months ago and it's been a mess. The SMS codes sometimes take 5 minutes to show up. One time I tried the authenticator app option and it desynced after 3 weeks. Now I'm locked out of my email because my phone died and I couldn't get the recovery code. Is this really more secure if it's pushing people to reuse passwords just to avoid the hassle?

Fully disagree honestly. 2FA stopped a fraud attempt on my account last year dead in its tracks. Someone had my password from some data breach and they couldn't get in because they didn't have my phone. You say SMS codes take 5 minutes but I get mine in under 10 seconds every time. Maybe check your carrier signal or something. The authenticator app desyncing sounds like a user error not a system flaw. I never had that happen once in four years of using it.

Building on that 2FA really saved my account from a hacker last month too.
