Backpack hook on a folding table at a rest stop changed how I pack

I was at a rest stop off I-90 last Tuesday and saw a trucker hang his whole loaded pack off a flimsy folding table edge with a tiny carabiner, and it got me thinking about how my own bag never has anywhere to sit when I'm eating on the road, so what do you all use to keep your daily carry off gross floors when there's no chair?

Think about gravity for a second. If you hang a heavy pack off any table edge, it pulls the whole table toward you. Get a bag with a wide base and just set it upright between your feet instead, that keeps it off the floor and out of the way. Or clip a small s-hook to the underside of the table lip, it holds the strap without tipping anything. I've also seen people use a carabiner on a chair arm rest, but that only works if the chair has a solid frame. The real trick is to stop trying to hang things and start learning what your bag can stand on its own. A flat bottom bag with a stiff back panel does more for you than any hook ever will.
