Finally figured out why my EDC bag always felt like a black hole

I spent 6 months digging through my bag for keys, chargers, and that one snack pouch my toddler shoved in there. Last week I dumped everything out on the kitchen counter and realized I was just throwing stuff in without any system. Now I use simple zip pouches for each category - one for cables, one for hygiene stuff, one for snacks. Cost me like $8 for a 3-pack at Target. Took me way too long to figure this out. Anyone else have a moment where they realized they were making carrying gear harder than it needed to be?

That one snack pouch my toddler shoved in there" hit close to home. A buddy of mine spent a whole week blaming his backpack for being too small until his wife found a petrified granola bar and three Hot Wheels cars at the bottom. He still uses the same bag but swears by the pouches now, so I guess he learned his lesson too.

Three Hot Wheels and a granola bar, man that's a whole other level of chaos. But honestly, is having a messy bag really that big of a problem? Like yeah it's annoying to dig around for your keys for 30 seconds, but we all survived without perfect organization for years. Feels like people treat their EDC like it's some kind of tactical operation when it's really just a bag you carry stuff in. Pouches are fine and all but are we really out here acting like this is a life changing revelation? I just shake my bag upside down every few months and call it good.
