I finally ditched my backpack for a crossbody sling and it's way better for city walking
After 6 months of carrying a 30L backpack through crowded subway stations in Chicago, switching to a 9L sling made me realize how much that extra weight was killing my shoulders. Anyone else find that big bags just encourage you to haul stuff you don't actually need that day?

Big backpacks are just an excuse for poor planning honestly. You end up carrying all that extra weight because you didn't bother to downsize your gear before leaving the house. A sling bag forces you to be smarter about what you actually NEED for the day.

Nah, I gotta disagree with @jessicaw11 on this one. Sure, a sling bag makes you cut down, but my 30L backpack is the reason I can grab groceries on the way home without a second trip. Plus, some days I need my laptop, a change of shoes, and a rain jacket, and that's not poor planning, that's just Chicago weather being a jerk. I actually tried a sling for a week and ended up with my arms full of stuff I had to carry because the bag was too small. Big bags aren't about hauling junk, they're about having OPTIONS when the day goes sideways.
