Overpacked for years, finally downsized my bag after a 3 day bus trip

I used to carry a 25 liter backpack everywhere, stuffed with stuff I maybe touched once a week. Last month I rode Greyhound from Portland to Seattle for a weekend visit and brought that same bag. By hour two my shoulders were killing me and I kept digging past three extra hoodies to find my phone charger. When I got back I swapped to an 18 liter daypack and forced myself to list what I actually used that trip. Turns out it was just my wallet, keys, a water bottle, a small power bank, and one layer for rain. The bigger bag felt safe but it was just dead weight. Now I fit everything in the smaller one and even added a strap for my jacket. Has anyone else made a similar cut and regretted losing the space, or do you also find less works better?
