Shoutout to hitting 214 items in my rotation log and realizing more gear made me slower
I keep a little notebook where I write down what I carry each day, mostly so I stop losing my flashlight. Last Tuesday I added it all up and I'm at 214 different items I've cycled through over about three years. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but here's the part that bugs me. The days I felt fastest and least annoyed were the days I carried the least, like just a wallet, keys, one small knife, and my phone. I think the whole idea that you need a different tool for every tiny thing is backwards. I've got a pouch with 11 bits for a driver I use maybe twice a year, and I've stopped reaching for it. So now the log is less about collecting and more about crossing stuff out. Curious if anyone else has counted their pile and gotten that same weird sinking feeling.
