That old cabinet maker I met at the hardware store
Ran into this guy in the fastener aisle last month, he was picking out brass screws for a 1920s restoration job he was doing. Told me he's been using the same leather tool roll for 40 years and won't switch to anything else, just keeps oiling it up when it gets dry. Made me think about how I've gone through three different tool bags in five years and none of them feel like mine yet - anyone else have a piece of gear they just can't replace?

Wait, you’ve burned through three tool bags in five years? Are you shoving them into a wood chipper or something? My old man has the same canvas tool bag he used when he built his first deck in 1986, and the only thing wrong with it is one broken zipper and a suspicious coffee stain from 1997. I swear, if you just buy decent leather and beat it up for a decade, it starts feeling like an old friend instead of a disposable wallet.

Ngl @kelly_coleman61, that coffee stain probably adds character and holds the whole thing together at this point. Honestly, if you treat a good bag like a truck instead of a rental, it'll outlast you.
