Found a 1962 road atlas in my grandpa's garage in Reno with a town that never made it onto any other map I own
I was going through boxes at my grandpa's place off Wells Ave in Reno last Saturday and pulled out a 1962 Rand McNally road atlas with a coffee ring on Nevada. Page 41 has a little dot labeled "New Washoe City" with a road going to it that I swear doesn't match my 1968 edition at all. I pulled out my other three western atlases and none of them show that dot, so I spent about two hours online and found out the town was platted but never really built. Maybe it was a real place for a short time and got wiped off later maps? I ended up making a scan of just that corner and pinning it above my desk. Planning to hit the county assessor's office next week and see if there's a plat book that backs this up. Has anyone else run into a town on an old map that just vanishes on newer ones?
