Hit 50 maps in my collection with pre-1950 borders last night
I was just sorting through and realized I've got exactly 50 dated maps showing borders from before 1950, and it got me wondering - does the age of the map matter more for the weird border errors, or is it the specific year that makes them interesting?

Jump into the specific year thing, because that's where the real gems hide. A 1939 map of Europe is way more interesting than a 1952 one just because of how borders shifted right after. Border errors from the 1920s or 1940s are hilarious to spot since whole countries keep appearing and disappearing depending on the mapmaker's politics.

GAH yes exactly, the politics of mapmakers from that era is WILD to spot. I found a 1942 atlas that still showed Danzig as a Free City and I almost dropped it from laughing.
