Hit a 1906 map of Wyoming with lake names that dont exist anymore
Spent an hour cross-referencing a 1906 USGS map of Wyoming with current satellite views and found 4 named lakes that are just dry basins now, anyone else ever accidentally discover a ghost lake this way?

Wait, were they labeled as lakes on that 1906 map, or were they just named features that happen to be dry now because of drought or irrigation? I think a lot of those "ghost lakes" in Wyoming actually got drained for farming or mining, not just dried up naturally. That's still a neat find, but the reason they're gone might be more human than you think.
