Honestly prefer the 1960s world map over the 1950s one
I was going through some old maps at a flea market in St. Louis last month and found a 1960s world map with all the African nations already colored in. People always say the 1950s maps are cooler because they still show the British Empire big, but I disagree. The 1960s one feels more real to me, like you can see the end of colonialism happening right on the page with new borders everywhere. Has anyone else noticed how the 1960s maps make you think about all those countries suddenly appearing?

Jumped into a similar debate last month on a different forum. Explaining how colonialism actually ended (or didn't really end, depending on who you ask) is tricky because it feels like people want a clean "it's finished" story. For me, what worked was focusing on one specific country I'd read about, like how Kenya's independence came with strings attached that kept Western control over their economy. That made it way easier for people to see the messiness instead of arguing about the general idea. Maybe narrowing it down to one example helps here too, you know?
