My 1970s road atlas of California still shows a town that got wiped off the map in 1983

I was flipping through an old Shell map I picked up at a garage sale and noticed a tiny dot labeled "Crystal Hills" near Bakersfield. turns out it was a small mining community that got abandoned after the water table dropped. has anyone else found a ghost town on an old map that surprised them?

Yeah "tiny dot labeled" is exactly what gets me every time. I found a place called "Garnet" in Nevada on a 1961 map and there's literally nothing there now, just a dirt road that dead ends into some old foundations. These maps are basically time capsules before highways and suburbs erased everything. It's wild how many towns just vanished because a mine closed or a highway bypassed them. I started checking old maps against current ones and found maybe a dozen ghost towns within a couple hours drive. The most surprising was one that still had a post office box listed in a 1950s directory but the whole area is now a Walmart parking lot.
