Picked up a 1959 map of Europe at a garage sale - Poland's borders don't match anything I remember
It shows Poland way west of where it should be, almost into Germany. Anyone else run into old maps that just mess with whole countries like that?

Yeah, I've definitely run into stuff like that. Old maps can be wild, especially from right after WWII when borders were still shifting around. I've got a 1947 atlas where Poland is basically sitting on top of what used to be eastern Germany, and the USSR stretches way further west than it does now. It's weird to look at because it doesn't match anything I learned in school. The whole thing makes me realize how much history got redrawn on paper.

It's like how I grew up thinking history was this solid, agreed-upon thing, but maps like that show it's more like a story that keeps getting edited. I see that same pattern in how people talk about local landmarks or even old family stories. Everyone remembers stuff a little different, and the official version is just whoever wrote it down first. You ever catch yourself correcting someone on a memory and realizing you might be the one who's wrong?
