Rant: a 1978 atlas in my grandpa's closet in Tulsa had my whole town listed under the wrong county
Spent 2 hours at his kitchen table in Tulsa comparing it to a 1995 road map and now I keep a folder of these things. What old maps do you all grab when you see them at estate sales?
That 1978 atlas mislabeling your whole town is why I always grab the Platt maps and those old USGS topo quads whenever I spot them. The topo maps are gold because they show roads, creeks, and even old school houses that vanished by the 90s, so you can date things pretty close. Estate sales in older neighborhoods are where they pop up most, usually stuffed in the garage or a closet with the Christmas stuff. Check the copyright date first and see if there's a revision year printed in the corner, because a lot of those got updated without changing the cover. I keep a cheap magnifying glass in the car now because half the good ones have tiny print you can't read without it.
