Saw a 1960s map of Africa at a thrift store and it had a country called 'Dahomey' on it
Had to look up when Benin changed its name, turns out it was 1975. Makes me wonder how many other outdated country names are sitting in frames on peoples walls right now. Anyone else find a map with a name you had to Google?

Oh man, that's a good one. I actually have a weird story about that. I found an old globe at a garage sale once and it still said "Upper Volta" on it, which is now Burkina Faso. I remember sitting there spinning it and thinking, "Who decided these names anyway?" It's funny how maps are basically time capsules, you know. Like, someday someone's gonna find a map with "Czechoslovakia" or "USSR" on it and have to Google that too.

That's exactly what I love about old globes and maps. They're like history you can touch, you know. I found one once that still had the separate Germany split into East and West, crazy to think that was the normal way of looking at the world not that long ago. Always makes you realize how temporary borders really are.
