Back in 2012 I was using a 1987 highway map of Nevada to plan a route near Tonopah, and it took a full 20 minutes of staring at a gas station attendant's puzzled face before I saw the compass rose was on the bottom edge and I'd been reading north as south the whole time, anyone else ever had that humbling moment with an old map's orientation?
