30 years in and I just learned how to properly torque head bolts
Was working on a 2004 Cummins ISX last week and kept pulling threads on the block. Old timer named Dave walked over and pointed out I was going in the wrong sequence even though I thought I had it memorized. Turns out the factory manual I've been using since 1998 got updated for these newer engines and I never bothered to check. I'd been cross-threading bolts for at least 5 years and just blamed it on bad bolts or high mileage. Now I keep a printed copy of the current torque specs taped inside my toolbox lid. Anyone else ever realize they've been doing some basic step wrong for way too long?

lol that "been using since 1998" part hit me. i read somewhere that some engine updates are actually super small changes but they mess everything up if you miss em. guess that old timer saved you some serious headache.
