Got a tour of a Cummins rebuild shop in Denver last month
They had a whole wall of crankshafts labeled by failure mode and I spent like 20 minutes just staring at bearing wear patterns. Anyone else ever get obsessed with diagnosing old failures?

Did they let you get close enough to feel the scoring with your fingernail? That's the real tell on bearing failures, not just looking at the discoloration. I spent a whole afternoon once tracking a spun rod bearing back to a bad oil filter bypass valve, the wear pattern was like a fingerprint. What was the most common failure mode they had on that wall?
