Had a fuel pump housing crack on a 6.7 Powerstroke last Thursday
It was one of those jobs that just drags on... found the crack after pulling the pump, right near the mounting flange. Took me and my apprentice about 4 hours to get the new housing in and the lines bled. Makes me miss the simpler setups on the old 7.3s sometimes. Anyone have a good trick for spotting hairline cracks on those aluminum housings before they fail completely?

You said it makes you miss the 7.3s. I miss them too, until I remember how many times I dropped a socket into the valley and had to fish it out. My own special talent.

Man, I dropped a 10mm deep socket in there so many times I almost bought a magnetic pickup tool just for that engine. @phoenixh74, I found the trick was to stuff a clean rag down the valley before you even start, acts like a safety net. Saved me a ton of time and swearing on those jobs. Those motors were great but they sure loved to eat tools.
